Spikes and Heels and abs of steel.
That was the internal chant that got me through the abs section of my Total NRG class last night. That and imagining that Bangs was there as my own personal motivator willing me on my reminding me that if I looked cute by the end I hadn’t worked hard enough.
This is how I looked at the end:
Cute? Heck no but proud as hell and happy to boot. I pushed myself and kept pushing myself until I couldn’t push any further, then I took a few moments to compose myself and have some water before pushing again. I was only competing against myself in my own little world and for once in my life totally unaware of what the others around me were doing. This was about me and me only and this time, it was personal.
So why the mantra? The indomitable Bangs and a Bun has recently launched Spikes and Heels the premier fitness site for badass women. It’s not about eating a cupcake and the guilty feeling propelling you into the gym to delicately bounce up and down on a x-trainer to burn off the calories, it’s about getting sweaty red in the face whilst pushing yourself as hard as you can. It’s not about anybody else, it’s about doing it because you want to test your own limits and you want to surpass them.
Call me a teacher’s pet but when the mental instructor singled me out and yelled praise in my face whilst I did thigh burning lunge after thigh burning lunge I utterly loved it. Not because it was about what she thought but because she could see what I knew, that I was giving it my all and winning.
S + H has only been live for a few days but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve pored over it, it just hooks into that bit inside me that has lain dormant for so long – the bit that I’ve never listened to before that tells me I CAN DO THIS.
