In this case *is* gold. No, I’m not talking about the Olympics although definite props to Helen Glover and Heather Stanning for starting what we can only hope is a goldRUSH rather than a whimper.
The golden glittery thing I am talking about is my beautiful friend ‘Treasure’ who took the plunge and got hitched to her lovely man ‘Owen’ last week (so called because he bears more than a passing resemblance to Owen Wilson) and who looked absolutely radiant. All brides look beautiful but Treasure absolutely knocked it out of the park. Having met the happy couple at Marmaloid’s wedding in Cuba it was fitting that they had the sunniest day of the year for their nuptials. In fact it was so hot and sunny that we were prompted to comment that we could well have been back in Cuba, all that was missing were the mojitos and a pervy Mockney barman.
The ceremony was crafted to highlight their love for one another but also their very unusual shared sense of humour and included a Doctor who is also a Bunny, a Scouser who did a startling good impression of a velociraptor down the aisle after reading A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton and lots of giggling over Owen’s middle names. It was perfect. Add to that an afternoon in the sunshine with Marmaloid and Doddy accompanied by their gorgeous daughter and the chance to catch up with some wonderful people and it was one of the best days I’ve had in a while.
After dancing the night away, being eaten alive by midges on the terrace and devouring some utterly tremendous cupcakes (seriously NOM) it was time to bid farewell to the party and head home for some beauty sleep. Friday dawned bright and early and with a hop, skip and jump (or a shuffle, a moan and a whinge) I dragged myself off to a spinning class to repent for the previous night’s cake. Oh and the chocolate pud. Plus a glass of wine.
Once I’d repented of my sins at the altar of the tight lycra clad bottom I gingerly clambered into the car to head home for a weekend in exceptionally sunny Sussex. Joined by the Dorset contingent including super scrumptious nephew Samjam we spent the weekend soaking up the sunshine; drinking cider; rock pooling; splashing about in the sea and laughing; lots of laughing. I was delighted to give Samjam his 5th birthday present (bugger me, where does the time go?!) although Humphrey wasn’t too chuffed at the thought of another few hours putting together yet more Lego… oops!
It made me realise how lucky I am to have a sunny little enclave by the sea to run away to and also made me not want to come back to Hampshire, can’t holidays last forever?
